Grosperrin Très Vieille Héritage

We close the third week of our Cognac-Expert 2025 Advent Calendar with a 50-year-old Grosperrin Très Vieille Héritage cognac. We love tasting another Grosperrin – we always visit them at spirits shows, and even stopped by their Saintes cellars in February this year.

Grosperrin Très Vieille Héritage Cognac (2025) Review

This Grosperrin Très Vieille Héritage Cognac is a yet to be released 50-year-old Grande Champagne cognac. Unfortunately, Grosperrin has not yet released this Très Vieille Héritage Cognac. As such, details remain scarce, such as grape varieties (likely Ugni Blanc distilled with lees) or cask origins. Grosperrin filled the advent calendar sample at 46.5% ABV, and no colour, sugar, or wood chips were added. You’ll have to keep an eye on Cognac-Expert in the coming weeks to be able to order one when it’s released.

Grosperrin Très Vieille Héritage Cognac

Colour:

Old oak.

Nose:

Neat: The nose is complex and highly detailed. The initial aroma is striking with ‘autumnal’ rancio notes – damp earth, tobacco leaf, and forest floor. As it opens, distinct waves of crystallised exotic fruits (peach, citrus rind) emerge, alongside almond oil, orange essential oil, menthol, and polished oak. There is also a refined ‘rustic elegance’ typical of very old Grande Champagne and Borderies, balancing deep spice with freshness.

Palate:

Neat: The palate is assertive and powerful upon arrival, yet impeccably balanced. The texture is oily and coating, delivering concentrated flavours of bitter old wood, liquorice root, old crystallised tropical fruits and stewed stone fruits. Then, the mid-palate reveals brighter notes of candied orange peel, nutmeg, and a resinous, herbal quality (eucalyptus bark, dried mint) that adds remarkable depth without overwhelming the fruit.

Finish:

‘‘’Long, earthy, and sophisticated. The finish shows a ‘damp’ rancio character, lingering herbal bitters, and wood spices like clove and nutmeg. It also leaves a lasting impression of dark cocoa and camphor.

Comments:

Grosperrin Très Vieille Héritage shines as a classic, stunning old Grande Champagne cognac. Strangely, though, it tilts slightly toward the elegant rusticity of aged Borderies. Grosperrin delivers excellence once again –  we never tire of their bottlings.
